They live in different places
Ambient lighting lives inside your cabin — soft glow in footwells, dash, doors, and cupholders that changes the mood of the interior. Underglow lives underneath the vehicle, casting light onto the ground for a dramatic exterior look. They're not competing; they do completely different things.
Ambient lighting — the interior glow
Interior ambient lighting is subtle, classy, and totally street-legal because it stays inside the car. Most of our ambient builds are RGB and phone- or dash-switch-controlled, so you change colors, brightness, and patterns on the fly. It's the upgrade that makes the cabin feel premium every time you open the door.
Underglow — the exterior show
Underglow is the head-turner — a dramatic pool of light under the car at a show or parked. California has specific rules about what colors and where accent lighting can face while driving, and some accent lighting is restricted to parked or off-road use. We wire everything for compliance and walk you through what's legal for your build before you commit.
Which should you choose?
- Choose ambient lighting for a classy, daily-driver interior upgrade that's always legal and app-controlled.
- Choose underglow for a show-stopping exterior look — and let us wire it for street-legal compliance.
- Choose both for a full inside-and-out lighting build, staged so they can be controlled together.
What's legal in California?
California allows certain aftermarket lighting but restricts colors, beam patterns, and where lights can face while driving. Some accent lighting is fine parked or off-road but not on the street. We wire for compliance and walk you through what's legal for your specific build so you don't get cited.
