What the two films actually are
Both Carbon and Premium Ceramic window tint are non-metallic films, which means neither one will interfere with your phone, GPS, or keyless entry the way older metallic films could. That's where the similarity mostly ends. Carbon film uses carbon particles to block heat and UV, giving a rich, dark look at a more affordable price. Premium Ceramic film uses nano-ceramic particles that reject a larger share of infrared heat and UV without needing to be as dark.
At Super Tint in Fresno, we install both — and we help drivers choose based on what they actually need, not just what costs more.
Appearance
Carbon tint produces a sleek, dark finish that most people picture when they think of a tinted car. It's the value-oriented look that's clean and uniform across every window.
Premium Ceramic tint has a premium finish with excellent optical clarity. It can look dark from the outside while staying clearer from the inside, so your view of the road stays sharp even at a shade that adds real privacy.
Heat rejection — the big difference in Fresno
Fresno summers don't give your A/C much of a break. The main reason drivers upgrade from Carbon to Premium Ceramic is heat rejection.
Carbon film provides some solar heat reduction and cuts glare — a real upgrade over bare glass. Premium Ceramic is designed for advanced solar heat rejection, so your cabin stays cooler and your A/C doesn't work as hard on a 100° Central Valley afternoon.
When you compare the two, ask for the Total Solar Energy Rejected (TSER) figure for the shade you're considering. TSER is the honest, manufacturer-tested number for how much of the sun's total energy a film blocks. We keep our current film specs on hand so you can compare apples to apples instead of relying on vague marketing claims.
UV protection
Both films cut a large share of UV, which helps protect your skin and keeps your interior from fading and cracking over time. Premium Ceramic carries the strongest UV-rejection numbers in our lineup — the exact percentage depends on the film and shade, and we'll show you the verified spec for the film we install on your vehicle.
Glare and driving comfort
Both films reduce glare, and glare reduction scales with how dark you go. If bright sun and headlight glare bother you on your commute, a darker shade of either film helps — and Ceramic keeps the clearest view from the driver's seat.
Price and value
Carbon is the budget-friendly option — the best value when you want the look, privacy, and everyday comfort without the premium price. Premium Ceramic costs more because the film itself costs more, but it pays off in heat rejection and comfort if you spend a lot of time in the car during a Fresno summer.
A good rule of thumb: if your vehicle is a daily driver that sits in the sun at work every day, Ceramic is worth it. If you want a clean tinted look on a weekend vehicle, Carbon is a smart value.
